Overview:
Out of 57 organizations interviewed on how they had improved decision processes, most were able to identify at least one decision that had been improved. The most striking finding is that organizations employed a variety of intervention types involving technology, organizational changes, and new business methods. Analytical interventions were the most commonly adopted, followed by culture and leadership. In order to implement these interventions, decision analysts had to adopt a more consulting-oriented role within their organizations.
This report describes how organizations are attempting to improve specific decisions. Most analyses of decision-making address single capabilities, such as technology, leadership, or group process. In this research, the topics addressed were more comprehensive - the idea being to understand which improvements were used most frequently.
